Orders

As a rule, users can order items in the BSB catalogue ( OPACplus) themselves, of course also from home via the internet.

All the works shelved in the reference libraries of the reading rooms do not need to be ordered, however, they are not available for home lending. The shelf mark of such items starts with the letters Hb..., standing for "Handbibliothek" (reference library).

Some special collections (e. g. books that are particularly valuable or worth protecting) cannot be ordered via the online catalogue, but must be ordered at the information desk of the respective reading room. Via the link "Wegweiser" (signpost) in the OPACplus you can find out whom you need to contact in such a case.

The ordered books, periodicals and media have to be taken from (not publicly accessible) stacks, which are partly situated outside the library's premises, in buildings on the outskirts of the city. As a rule, ordered items can be collected after two to three working days. It is unfortunately impossible to determine the time of provision more exactly.

The number of orders placeable is limited for all user groups. When the maximum number of orders is reached (as a rule 10 orders) further orders can only be placed as soon as the ordered books have been collected.

Your orders are stored in the data-processing system for 10 working days from the order date. Working days are Monday to Friday. Afterwards, the order is cancelled and the provided books are returned to the stacks. Users are thus always provided with sufficient time to collect their ordered items. In the case that you provided your e-mail address, you will be sent a message when your ordered media have been ready for collection for some days already, to enable you to collect them before they are returned to storage.
