The
modern papers held by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek up to 1829 were categorized to form part of the manuscripts, e. g. bearing the shelf marks Cgm or Clm. Since 1829 they have predominantly had their own category with the shelf mark "Ana", e. g. as Liebigiana or Ana 532. A comprehensive overview of the personal papers acquired up to 1970 was published by Karl Dachs, and an abbreviated online version of an updated alphabetic list of personal papers is forthcoming. For numerous collections of personal papers there are detailed repertories or preliminary inventory lists which can be consulted in the reading room for manuscripts and early printed books. Some individual repertories are also available in print - in addition to some new repertories also that on the Camerarius collection, which is an important collection of early modern times.
The individual autographs collected since 1858 and also the correspondence parts of the catalogued personal papers are searchable in a card catalogue, the majority of which has in the meantime been integrated in the database
Kalliope of the central index of autographs at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. Since 1992 the index has been continued in electronic form as the
autographs database of the BSB.
