Long-Term Archiving of Electronic Documents

While digitisation has sped up access to information and has made the handling of the contents easier for the user, it has also created new challenges for libraries on a world-wide scale. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek as a universal and Land library is also confronted with an annually increasing number of digital objects. These objects not only have to be administrated and stored, but they must also be made accessible in the long run. The fast technological development in the area of hardware and software and the natural physical limits of the data carriers complicate this task. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek takes part in a number of projects to solve this problem.
