Einbanddatenbank (EBDB - Database of Book Bindings)
Rubbings of blind-tooled Book Bindings of the 15th and 16th CenturySince the year 2001 the
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation - DFG) has been financially supporting the digitisation and cataloguing of the collections of rubbings of book bindings held by several large libraries in a joint database. The project gives unified access to the collections of Berlin, Stuttgart and Wolfenbuettel, which complement each other both in regard of geography and time, and, since December 2003, also includes the comprehensive collection of rubbings of Southern German book bindings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
The book binding database (EBDB) aims at cataloguing rubbings taken from decorative tools of book bindings of the 15th and 16th century formally and with regard to their content (decorative motifs, size of tool, binding workshops) in one Allegro database that has been designed specifically for the requirements of historical book bindings. The database will be accessible via the Internet for users interested in the style of early modern book bindings. The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage) provides technical support and hosts the database.
A handwritten
subject index on the collection of book bindings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is accessible in the form of a browsable file.
