EU Project MICHAELPlus

Start of Project: 1. June 2006
Funding:  eTEN European Community programme

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is a partner in the project MICHAELPlus supported by the European Commission within the framework of the eTEN programme. The MICHAELPlus programme will establish a central catalogue of digitised holdings and collections of European archives, libraries and museums in the form of an Internet portal.
The project started on 1 June 2006 with project partners from 14 European countries. At the end of the two-year term of the project a national MICHAEL portal will be available, enabling access to the digitised holdings and collections of the various institutions in a European country. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek will take over the technical administration of the portal. Furthermore, a European MICHAEL server will be set up, enabling such access on a European level. No matter whether one's interest lies in the fine arts or in history, the middle ages or the time of Goethe, whether one is interested in a certain region or the digitised collections of cultural institutions on the spot - the MICHAEL portal offers information on what is available on a European scale, and how to access it.
