The Division Information Technology is responsible for setting up, expanding and continuously operating the network of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the local library system (SISIS) and further applications, and for providing a support hotline for our employees.

Head of Subdivision: Jörg Luber

The subdivision is responsible for setting up, expanding and continuously operating the local library management system (SISIS) for acquiring, indexing, loaning and OPAC, as well as the application- and database servers required for these purposes. These services also encompass the offer of electronic image catalogues. With the conversion of the QK (quarto catalogue) in 2003 now also the last large section of the comprehensive BSB catalogue with a total of almost 9 million title data sets has been made available online for the library users.

IT/A pilots the information portal Elektra in cooperation with the speciality departments of the library. Among the further tasks of the subdivision are providing online subject catalogues for electronic media, for literature on manuscripts, for image archives, broadsides, etc. and running and maintaining the accounting system BayMBS.

The network of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek consists of a gigabit Ethernet backbone and the corresponding components. The LAN is run on a TCP/IP basis. In the computing centre of the BSB several servers, switches, routers, firewalls, the internet access and the intranet have to be taken care of. The

Subdivision IT/N is furthermore responsible for the application serving for office applications and PC client software, as well as the mail servers and central web servers. The Head of the Subdivision at the same time is the Head of the Division Information Technology and the person in charge of the BSB network. He administrates the BSB's internet domains.

The subdivision is in charge of planning and providing the PC workstations of the library's employees and runs the BSB's central IT hotline, which is supported by the decentral IT contact persons of the speciality departments. The range of services also includes the central IT acquisition, IT accounting and the central filing management of the department. The subdivision furthermore carries out training courses.
