Co-operations

The Department Eastern Europe fosters many contacts with libraries in all Eastern European countries. These relationships are predominantly exchange relationships within the framework of the international literature exchange of the German Research Foundation (with 86 partners), the Academy exchange (since the BSB is simultaneously the library of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences - with 141 partners), and of direct exchange (with 34 partners). Furthermore, the BSB maintains subject-specific contacts to the library of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the University Library of Lviv, the Russian National Library in St Petersburg, the regional library in Brjansk - just to mention a few.

Via the federal and Laender working group "Zusammenarbeit mit Mittel- und Osteuropäischen Bibliotheken" (Cooperation with Libraries in Central and Eastern Europe) a close cooperation with the libraries of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk was established within the framework of the Central- and Eastern Europe project concluded in 1999, which cooperation has been enhanced to become an intensive partnership.

The project Verbesserung der Zugänglichkeit und des Schutzes von Druckwerken im Schnittfeld Polnischer und Deutscher Kultur in Polnischen Bibliotheken (Improvement of the Accessibility and the Protection of Printed Works forming an Intersection of Polish and German Culture in Polish Libraries), initiated by the Robert Bosch Foundation and supported by the Stiftung für Deutsch-Polnische Zusammenarbeit (Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation), has led to close cooperation with the national library of Poland and a number of other large-scale Polish libraries. The BSB furthermore takes part in the   ABDOS e.V., the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Bibliotheken und Dokumentationsstellen der Ost-, Ostmittel- und Südosteuropaforschung" (Working Group of Libraries and Documentation Centres of Research of Eastern-, Eastern Central- and South-Eastern Europe) every year, which has also brought about numerous and multi-facetted contacts serving the mutual exchange of information.

In the course of the establishment and improvement of the   Virtual Special Library Eastern Europe (ViFaOst) the BSB established co-operations with German and foreign libraries, which institutions contribute to the various modules of the subject portal Eastern Europe in a multitude of ways.   Co-operation Partners ViFaOst

Since the summer semester of the year 2005, the BSB has furthermore co-operated with the interdisciplinary honours master's programme  Eastern European Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and the University of Regensburg. This cooperation encompasses a participation in teaching (conveying information competence) and events organized together.
