Catalogues

The complete holdings of printed music, book about music, music periodicals and of music CDs can be researched in the BSB catalogue ( OPACplus).
 
In 1999 and 2001 the "Katalog der Notendrucke, Musikbücher und Musikzeitschriften" (Catalogue of Printed Music, Music Books and Music Periodicals) was published on CD-ROM
  • all printed music published from 1501 to 2000
  • all books on music published from 1501 to 1840 and from 1982 to 2000
  • all music periodicals
The main advantage of the CD-ROM is that search terms can be combined in a multitude of ways, thereby allowing for more precise, in-depth information.
 
The music manuscripts are catalogued and indexed in three different types of catalogues:
  • Catalogue of the overall holdings:
    Alphabetic card catalogue of music manuscripts in the reading room of the Department of Music.
  • Academic special catalogues:
    Printed catalogues, published with the support of the German Research Foundation forming part of the series "Kataloge Bayerischer Musiksammlungen" (Catalogues of Bavarian Music Collections):
    Vol. 5,1: Chorbücher und Handschriften in chorbuchartiger Notierung (1989) (Choir books and manuscripts in choir-book notation).
    Vol. 5,2: Tabulaturen und Stimmbücher bis zur Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts (1979) (Tabulatures and part books up to the middle of the 17th century).
    Vol. 5,3: Collectio musicalis Maximilianea (1981).
  •  Online Catalogue for the Historical Performance Materials of the Bavarian State Opera (St.th.) - also contained in the BSB catalogue (OPACplus).

Since 1953 the Department of Music hosts the West German working group of the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM). The working group forms part of the international common effort of documenting music sources on a world-wide scale. In 1979 it was complemented by the German section of the Répertoire International d'Iconographie Musicale (RIdIM). Its objective is to register, catalogue and collect in a database image sources on music from German museums and collections.
