Catalogue by Subject Headings 1911-1981

The alphabetical subject catalogue 1911 to 1981 is available in the form of a microfiche catalogue (green headline) at the information counter in the general reading room. An information leaflet giving detailed search instructions is available at the information stands.

The catalogue is subdivided into:
  • Subject Catalogue Old Sequence 1911-1929
The mainly handwritten catalogue records approximately 200.000 cards beginning with the processing year 1911. It contains literature from the publication year 1896 until the processing year 1929, excluding German and Swiss dissertations, literature in Oriental languages, fictional publications, Classical and Medieval literature, fine editions, printed music and microforms.
The content is described in wide terms, sometimes in combination with a second term. Geographical subject headings precede topical subject headings.

  • Subject Catalogue New Sequence 1911-1981
The mainly typewritten catalogue records printed works published between 1911 and 1981 and processed from 1930 onwards. It registers about 2 million cards, excluding the categories mentioned above. Precise terms are used to describe the content of the books. Topical subject headings take precedence over geographical subject headings, with the exception of historical, geographical, linguistic or philological works. The catalogue consists of three parts: Main Part, Special Catalogue on World War One and Special Catalogue on World War Two.
