LITERATURE SEARCH African Writers Series
The database is based on the series "Heinemann's African Writers Series", a comprehensive collection of modern African literature of the 20th century. The series, which comprises more than 300 titles, contains verse, drama and non-fiction literature by authors such as Ama Ata Aidoo, Mongo Beti, Steve Biko, Dennis Brutus, Cyprian Ekwensi, Buchi Emecheta, Bessie Head, Luis Bernardo Honwana, Chenjerai Hove, Nelson Mandela, Jack Mapanje and Veronique Tadjo.

PRESS RELEASE Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation supports the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek - Funds promised in an Initial Amount of EUR 1.2 Million
From 2012 to 2014 the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek will be supported by the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation with EUR 400,000 annually for the acquisition of antiquarian prints. Moreover, the Foundation has announced a continuation of the financial support of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in the years 2015 and 2016.

Blockbooks, books printed from woodcuts, during the second half of the 15th century primarily served to spread works in which image and text had merged almost inseparably. Most of these xylographic prints conveyed knowledge about the bible to the reader or taught him Christian religious practice, but some blockbooks also concern more earthly topics.
