The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek commemorates Paul Heyse, who was born in 1830, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death on 2 April 1914. "A favourite of the muses", is how he was characterised by his friend Theodor Fontane in the title of an article contributed to the magazine "Die Gartenlaube" in 1867. The highlight of the exhibition is Paul Heyse's Nobel Prize diploma. He was the first German author to become a literature Nobel Prize laureate in 1910, as a retrospective appraisal of his complete works.

The anthology of the Carmina Burana forms part of the most famous and most valuable manuscripts of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. It is considered the most important collection worldwide of medieval literature (so-called vagrant lyricism). At the same time, it preserves outstanding examples bearing witness of Middle High German lyricism of the early 13th century.

The Music Department holds a comprehensive collection of sheet music to be played on a dulcimer. The works run the gamut from Bavarian folk music to music from different cultures, on to systematic teaching works and editions of earlier classical dulcimer music, up to a new point of emphasis in contemporary music.
