Due to its relevance and its tradition as the central Bavarian regional library, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek holds outstanding collections on Bavaria in all fields of collection. All publications relating to Bavaria are collected as comprehensively as possible, wherein the legal deposit by the publishing houses based in Bavaria plays an important role. The cataloguing and indexing of this literature in the catalogues and in the Bavarian Bibliography corresponds to the classic tasks of a regional library.

Independent literature from and about Bavaria is contained in the  BSB Catalogue. Articles from periodicals and serials are catalogued in the  Bayerischen Bibliographie (Bavarian Bibliography) and in the catalogue of the Bavarian Library Network  Gateway Bayern (Gateway Bavaria). Furthermore, the cultural studies portal  Bayerische Landesbibliothek Online (Bavarian Regional Library Online) links numerous online sources to each other and thus facilitates access to information about Bavaria.

In a separate Bavarica section in the  General Reading Room a selection of reference works, monographs, periodicals and serials about Bavaria, which covers all subject areas and which is shelved systematically, is freely accessible.
