At the beginning of February 2010 the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek inaugurated the Aventinus Reading Room, a research reading room focusing on the areas of historical sciences and Bavarica.
The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek pursues a double goal by providing this reading room: On the one hand research and academic studies - particularly in connection with older and rare books - are to be furthered in the best possible way by providing excellent working conditions. On the other hand the sustainable protection of our valuable cultural heritage - older and rare printed works - is to be guaranteed.
The Aventinus reading room offers 64 work places, PCs with internet access and of course access to the OPACplus, the online catalogue of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Laptops are permitted and can be connected to the WLAN of the BSB and the Leibniz computing centre. A book scanner is provided for copying. Also microfilm and microfiche reading devices are available.
The reference collection of the reading room encompasses 20,000 volumes from the disciplines of history, Bavarica and classical studies.
The Aventinus reading room is accessible exclusively for users with corresponding access permit. Permits can be obtained in Room 103 (1st floor, secretariat of the User Services Department (Abteilung Benutzungsdienste), Mon - Thu 8:00 - 11:30 and 13:00- 15:30 (or on appointment), Fri 8:00 - 11:30. Please bring your identification card, your reader pass (if applicable) and confirmation for your scholarly work.
