Masquerade - Clothing and Fancy Dress in the 19th Century
1 - 29 February 2012
Besides the photographic archives also illustrated books and periodicals form part of the collections of the image archive of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Among them are also fashion journals and costume books of the 19th century, which are particularly appealing. With their numerous coloured fashion images they convey a lively impression of the idea of beauty of the time. From this collection the Department Maps and Images now – at the right time for the forthcoming carnival - presents a selection of fancy dress designs from the period from 1840 to 1890.
